Q: Am I required to sign anything when I join?

A: At the time you join, you are required to sign a membership agreement. The membership agreement has several purposes.  First, you are authorizing your bank or credit card company to make your membership payments for you as explained in When and how do my monthly membership dues get paid?  And, you are acknowledging that you understand the various rules, policies, and procedures of the club and your membership.

Q: When and how do my monthly membership dues get paid?

A: At the time you join, you authorize your bank or credit card provider to pay your membership dues from either a checking, savings or credit card account on about the 20th of each month until such time as you cancel your membership.   At the time you join, you also authorize the payment of the Annual Price Pledge as described in What is the purpose of the Annual Price Pledge?

Q: What are “prorated” dues?

A: Prorated dues are simply a portion of the dues, or partial payment that is less than the full month worth of dues as a result of your join date not being exactly on the 2oth of the month when membership dues are billed.   This occurs when you join the club on a day which is part way through the membership billing cycle and you should not be required to pay a full month’s worth of membership since you are only getting a part of the month’s membership benefit.  For example, let’s say that you join on the fifth day of a given month. Since the membership dues are paid on the 20th of each month, you will receive only 15 days (the 5th through the 20th) worth of membership before your first full month of membership dues is paid on the 20th.  Therefore, you are charged for only 15 days worth of membership dues at the time you join.  This calculation is referred to as a “prorate”. Your dues are prorated for only that period of time during which you received the benefit of your membership.

Q: What is the purpose of the Annual Price Pledge?

A: The Annual Price Pledge is the annual fee that guarantees your monthly membership dues will not increase.  It is paid on about the 1st day of the 2nd calendar month after you join, and every year thereafter on the same day. For example, if you join on January 15th, your 1st Annual Price Pledge will be billed on or about March 1st, and every year thereafter on or about March 1st.

Q: Can I pay as I go?

A: You may not pay to use the club as you go, or on a day-to-day basis.  Spunk Fitness is a membership based club with crazy low rates.  It does not make any financial sense for someone to pay on a pay as you go basis when membership rates are so low and you can cancel your membership at any time.

Q: How can I cancel my membership?

A: If you have a month-to-month, no-commitment membership:  You may cancel it at any time simply by going to the location that you joined, completing a cancellation form, or by sending a certified letter requesting to cancel your membership as is explained in your membership agreement.  Your membership account must be current and all past due fees paid prior to cancelling your membership.

If you have a 12-month commitment membership:  . . . And your initial 12 month term has not yet ended, you may cancel your membership at any time prior to the end of your initial 12 month term by paying an early termination fee of $59.  If your initial 12 month term has ended, you may cancel at any time by following the same steps for cancellation of the month-to-month, no-commitment membership, as explained above. Your membership account must be current and all past due fees paid prior to cancelling your membership.

Your membership billing stops 30 days after the date we receive your cancellation request.  If you request to cancel your membership less than 30 days prior to the next billing date for your monthly dues or Annual Price Pledge, you will be billed for these items.

Q: Does Spunk Fitness offer group exercise classes?

A: Some Spunk Fitness clubs do offer group exercise classes such as Boot Camp classes, Zumba, and/or yoga.  Group exercise classes are not included in any of the Spunk Fitness memberships.  There is an additional fee for any group exercise classes that are offered.  Generally Spunk PLUS+ members receive a discounted rate on group fitness exercise classes.  Check with the club you are interested in to determine which, if any, group exercise classes are offered.

Q: Why is there an additional fee for group exercise classes?

A: Our business is based on keeping membership rates as low as possible in order to make fitness affordable to almost anyone. Not everyone is interested in group fitness classes. By charging an extra fee for these classes, only those who are interested in participating in the classes are required to pay for them. This enables us to maintain very affordable rates to those members that are not interested in participating in group fitness classes.

Q: Why does SpunkFitness not have types of equipment that bodybuilders or powerlifters may use?

A: The business model of Spunk Fitness is based on catering to the average person that makes up 99.99% of the population and not to body builders or power lifters.  The average person is not comfortable, and may even be intimidated, exercising with the likes of bodybuilders and power lifters.  We want the environment at our clubs to be comfortable and non-intimidating. For this reason, we purposely do not offer many of the things that body builders and power lifters desire so as to discourage bodybuilders and power lifters from joining our clubs.  We have nothing against bodybuilders and power lifters- We simply do not want this very small percentage of the population to be an intimidating factor in our clubs.
